Canada is a land of immigrants so; a wide array of languages
is popular over there. However, under the act of official languages 1969, it is
a bilingual country with only two official languages, English and French.
Around 85 % of the population of Canada has a working knowledge of English, and
around 30% have a working knowledge of French.
So if a foreign national is interested in immigrating to
Canada for any reason, study or work, he/she must have linguistic knowledge in
any of its official languages. For that, scorecard of language proficiency
tests like IELTS, CELPIP, and TEF is mandatory.
The International English language testing system (IELTS) is
one of the most popular and trusted English proficiency tests across the globe.
It is widely used in the immigration process of many countries like Canada and
Australia. Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council and
IDP jointly manage the execution of IELTS in different corners of the world.
General structure of
IELTS:
There are two categories of IELTS including, General
training module and Academic module.
- If an individual is interested in moving to a foreign English speaking country for higher or advanced studies, then the academic module is preferable.
- If an individual is interested in moving to a foreign English speaking country for settlement or working, then General training module is preferable.
Both have four components including, listening, speaking,
writing and reading to test overall proficiency of an individual in the language.

IELTS score for
different PNPs:
PNPs stand for Provincial
Nominee Programs which are under the control of province’s government to
nominate internationals having expertise and experience to meet the demands or
gaps of the labor market of Canadian provinces. In the present, an applicant
can submit Expression of Interest (EOI) for 11 immigration programs under PNP
which get further divided into Enhanced PNP streams and Base PNP streams.
Enhanced PNP streams
Enhanced PNP streams are directly linked to the Federal
Express entry program. So, in general, interested candidates need to first
create profiles in express entry pool for express entry-linked PNP stream.
Examples: SINP’s
Express entry, Nova
Scotia Demand: Express Entry, Ontario
Express entry including, Ontario
Human capital Priorities, Ontario French-Speaking Skilled Worker and
Ontario Skilled Trades.
Base PNP streams:
Base PNP streams are regular programs which make nominations
outside the express entry pool. So, interested applicants first need to select
a Canadian province and satisfy the eligibility of its respective PNP.
To become eligible
for Enhanced PNP streams, an applicant must score a minimum of CLB level 7
in language proficiency test.
